Coronavirus is shifting our everyday routines such as workflows and now dating. With 25% of all Americans being asked to stay at home, video and audio dates are increasing.
COVID-19 is ruining plans across the nation, but you don’t have to let this life-threatening virus kill your social game.
You can honor social distancing guidelines without destroying your single life. Try these 10 date ideas to keep the romance alive.
1. Join Netflix watch parties
With social distancing being the new norm, it’s time to get creative and have a virtual movie night with your crush! Download the Netflix Party extension through Chrome, pop some popcorn, and live stream your favorite flick together.
2. Play virtual games
Unleash your competitive nature and challenge your date to beat your high score on Mario Kart Tour or Scrabble Go. You can even play Monopoly through your smartphone or tablet!
3. Tour museums from your laptops
Explore popular museums such as the British Museum in London, the Musée d’Orsay, or the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C together. Take notes on your favorite exhibits and compare your top picks, then make plans to see them in person when the pandemic ends.
4. Check out virtual aquariums
Relaxing on the beach isn’t possible during a pandemic, but you can view ocean life during a virtual aquarium tour. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a live cam that brings the crashing waves of the beach to your screen.
5. Try new recipes from a distance
Improve your cooking skills and make the most of the canned goods in your pantry by trying new recipes together. Facetime or Zoom after and share feedback so you can decide which recipes are keepers.
6. Curate playlists for each other
Apple Music and Spotify let you create playlists and share them. Create your top favorite ballads or some new tunes you know they’ll like, then have a virtual listening session to see their reactions.
7. Virtual clubbing
Anticipating the Instagram live battles or clubs having virtual parties is the perfect way to have fun during a pandemic. Show off your dance moves with your partner and enjoy the music!
8. Zoom workout classes
If you can’t be a IRL gym buddy, holding each other accountable for your fitness goals is the next best thing. Sign up for the same Zoom class and work out together!
9. Sunset watch
Grab some coffee or a nightcap and scope out a spot with a view (even if it’s just the bay window of your living room). Reflect on the day ahead or behind you after enjoying nature’s colorful show. Share three things you’re feeling thankful for to each other.
10. Take a hike
In most areas, outdoor activities are still encouraged as long as you practice social distancing. Scout out a park or hiking/walking trails near you and throw on your comfy shoes. Enjoy the fresh air and each other’s company, six feet apart of course!
