25 year-old Demi Lovato is currently stable and awake after a reported drug overdose.
Yesterday afternoon, reports broke of Demi being rushed to the hospital over an apparent drug overdose. Demi was reportedly partying in her Hollywood mansion when things took a turn for the worse.
A source told Us Weekly details of what transpired when Demi overdosed. “One of her friends had Narcan on hand in case something like this happened. Her friends knew this was coming because she’s been using so much again. They were up all night partying the night before at her house… Luckily, the Narcan worked and she will recover… She had two friends with her at her house that called 911. They were hysterical when paramedics arrived and Demi was unconscious… But the friends acted very quickly and saved her life.”
A spokesperson for Demi released a statement. “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy.” Demi has been open about her struggle with addiction, depression, eating disorders, and bipolar disorder. Her candidness about the difficulties she faces everyday helped many fans and admirers through similar times. Since news of Demi’s overdose, people have been showing support through #HowDemiHasHelpedMe.
Demi shocked us all when she announced her relapse last month after six years of sobriety. In the same month, she released her song “Sober,” but it’s still unclear whether she was talking about a previous relapse or her most recent one.
In the song she sings, “I’m sorry that I’m here again/ I promise I’ll get help/ It wasn’t my intention/ I’m sorry to myself.”
On July 22, Demi performed during the 2018 California Mid-State Fair along with Iggy Azalea. Last week, rumors swirled that Demi Lovato’s friends were worried about her. They claimed she was spinning out of control and cut off ties with everyone close to her. Demi was spotted out at a club until 2:30am last weekend, and left holding hands with a mystery man.
Demi Lovato was due to perform in Atlantic City as part of the beach concert series this summer, but has since been cancelled. Executive Director Matt Doherty told The Press of Atlantic City on Tuesday, “We are clearly concerned with what’s happened with Demi Lovato today. Our thoughts and prayers are with her at this time… We should have an announcement hopefully this evening, if not tomorrow morning.”
