Is there a greater honor than being handpicked by Aretha Franklin for her biopic? We’re pretty sure we know Jennifer Hudson’s answer.
It was announced over the weekend that the “Dream Girl” Oscar winner will play Aretha in her upcoming biopic.
During the pre-Grammys party on Saturday in New York City, Jennifer Hudson was belting out some of the greatest hits from the Queen of Soul. Afterwards, Clive Davis announced the wonderful news. Clive has worked with both Aretha and Jennifer over the years.
Back in 2011, Aretha and Wendy had tea and discussed who could possibly play her in the movie version of Ms. Franklin’s life. Halle Berry was Aretha’s first choice, but Halle wasn’t confident in pursuing the role since she cannot sing. Wendy chimed in to say Jennifer Hudson would do a great job.
Aretha’s biopic has been in the works for years, and it’s thrilling to finally see it all come together! Clive Davis said filming for the movie is supposed to start next year.
