Charlie Rose Suspended, Then Fired from CBS

92nd Street Y Presents "Fifty Years Of 60 Minutes" Book Launch Event

UPDATE: Charlie Rose was officially fired from CBS today, November 21st. The CBS News President David Rhodes said in a statement, “A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News effective immediately. This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program. Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a sage, professional workplace — a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work.”

Charlie Rose shared his statement today as well: “Claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues. It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed… I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.”

At this point in time, Charlie’s replacement has not been named.

Charlie Rose was suspended from CBS yesterday after being accused of groping eight women, including interns. He allegedly had “Charlie’s Angels” of young females. Five of the accusers alleged he touched their legs to see how they would react. Two accusers allege he walked around naked in front of them.

Charlie’s former assistant claims Charlie walked around nude and would call her at odd hours to share his fantasies of her swimming nude at his home. When she complained to the female Executive Producer, she said that’s just Charlie. On top of all of this, Charlie also allegedly gave shoulder rubs, and was known as “the crusty paw.”

CBS This Morning

Charlie issued a statement admitting he acted inappropriately, but thought at the time he was pursuing shared feelings. Charlie’s co-hosts, Norah O’ Donnell and Gayle King, spoke out this morning. Norah said this is unacceptable behavior that will be investigated. Gayle went onto say that she got less than two hours of sleep last night, and she is not OK. “What do you say when someone that you deeply care about has done something so horrible?”
