UPDATE: Jennifer Hudson’s ex-fiancé David Otunga allegedly received temporary primary custody of their son, eight year-old David Jr. Jennifer dropped the restraining order against Otunga with the alleged understanding that he would never return to their family home again.

While Jennifer has always tried to be the best working Mom she can be to her son David Jr., she travels a lot for work. When she’s taping “The Voice” she’s in LA, and while taping “The Voice U.K.” she’s in London. Since Jen is currently in London for work, David Jr. will stay with his father. The judge hasn’t ruled official custody to either parent yet. People reports Jen will assume all childcare costs that might emerge.

The world was waiting patiently for Jennifer Hudson to tie the knot with her fiancé David Otunga. Wendy never believed in long engagements, but the news of their split came as a big surprise.

After a 10 year engagement, Jennifer Hudson split from her fiancé David Otunga. On Thursday, Jennifer’s rep said in a statement, “They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months… Today, Jennifer requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé. Jennifer’s actions are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”

David’s attorney quickly shared a statement about the protective custody order. “Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

The former couple got engaged in September 2008 after dating for less than a year. In August 2009, Jennifer and David had their only child, David Daniel Otunga Jr. Back in 2014, Jennifer sat on the purple couch and discussed her relationship with David, and her thoughts on marriage. At that point in time, Jennifer and David were already engaged for six years. “We will get married one day. My thing is once I get married, I don’t believe in divorce. And so when I get married, it’s for good. We want to be completely sure that we’re together and we’re happy… I think take baby steps.”

In 2012, David stopped by “Wendy” to dish about how he met Jennifer, and why Jennifer says he saved her life.

Jennifer Hudson will debut as a coach on The Voice in April.
