Oh yes. After 15 seasons on the air, and one year off, ABC is bringing back American Idol!
After a bidding war with ABC, NBC, and FOX for the rights to the show, ABC reportedly outbid the competing networks to secure its return. American Idol has only been gone for a year, but a year is too long for Idol fans.
ABC’s president Channing Dungey had this to say on their big purchase, “American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon…ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”
If it’s a “pop-culture staple,” what would American Idol be without the iconic Ryan Seacrest? The timing couldn’t be worse for Ryan. He just started his new gig on ABC’s Live with Kelly and Ryan, and told TMZ he “loves that show… it’s ABC, it’s good… I just got this amazing new position… but I’m excited it’s coming back.”
According to reports, Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of American Idol was approached by ABC to join the judges table.
Kelly is reportedly very interested and her people are already clearing her schedule.
American Idol is expected to be back on the air in March 2018.
