Last night was the “Most Memorable Year” night on DWTS. For some, the most memorable year doesn’t mean their best year. Some of the stars shared very emotional and inspiring stories.

Grab the tissues now.

Nick is determined to get his scores up. He started his dance with his shirt open, and halfway through, he was completely shirtless. At the end of the dance, Nick pulled Vanessa up on stage for a lift. She probably should have worn a different dress, though. Some of the audience, including host Tom, could definitely see her butt. He commented, “That looked good, top to bottom.”

Nancy Kerrigan has a smile that lights up the room. Since she was 10 years old, Nancy wanted to be just like her Mom, and have three kids before she was 30. After she got married, she got pregnant quickly. After their first born, she got pregnant again, but it ended with a miscarriage. Nancy had six miscarriages, and felt like a failure. She never gave up on her dream. Eventually, her and her husband sought out help through IVF, and had two more children. Nancy’s most memorable year was when she became a mother.

Normani Kordei with Valentin Chmerkovskiy
“Impossible” By Shontelle
Rumba
Normani had her biggest supporters on stage with her tonight. Fifth Harmony sang “Impossible” for Normani and Valentin. We could see Normani singing along while she danced. Julianne and Bruno believe Normani is a pure powerhouse. Len thought he could have seen a bit more rumba, and Carrie confessed that she will judge less favorably because of the lift that was done.

Nick Viall with Peta Murgatroyd
“Shape of You” By Ed Sheeran
Rumba
Nick’s best year was when he met fiancé Vanessa on The Bachelor. The dance opened with multiple women swooning around Nick, tugging him in all different directions. When Peta (AKA Vanessa) came up to him, he changed. At the end of the number, Nick pulled the real Vanessa on stage for a lift, that didn’t go as well as she would have liked. The first thing pointed out was that Nick looks very comfortable with a lot of women around him. Despite that dig, Julianne said this was his best dance ever. Carrie Ann noted that Nick looked awkward in the beginning, but got better once he started dancing with Peta.

Nancy Kerrigan with Artem Chigvintsev
“My Wish” By Rascall Flats
Foxtrot
As always, Nancy was a beautiful vision throughout her performance. The dance was light, elegant, and “innocent,” said Julianne. Bruno commended Nancy for her dynamic flow throughout the dance. Carrie Ann said Nancy is an inspiration. Len had the best comments of all, saying that Nancy moved from just one in the pack, to a front-runner.

Mr. T with Kym Herjavec
Amazing Grace” by Ray Chew Live
Viennese Waltz
Mr. T’s most memorable year was when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. This dance represented his strength during that year, and the battle moving forward through radiation, and eventually chemotherapy. It was obvious this was Mr. T’s best dance so far. The dance brought Carrie Ann to tears, and she confessed that even though he doesn’t have the best scores, he is winning the hearts of everyone at home. Len said he admires Mr. T more than any other celebrity for stepping outside of his comfort zone.

Heather Morris with Maksim Chmerkovskiy Alan Bersten
“Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon
Cha Cha
Heather’s most memorable year was when she got married to husband, Taylor Hubbell in 2015. Maks is still out for the count, so Alan is filling in again. They start the dance with a kiss, and then Alan rips off Heather’s skirt to reveal a jumper. Len complimented Heather’s sharp, and crisp moves, and Alan’s choreography. Carrie Ann said Heather becomes more beautiful every time she gets on stage. Her light gets brighter and brighter with each dance. However, she still deducted a point for the lift.

David Ross with Lindsay Arnold
“Forever Young” By Youth Group
Viennese Waltz
What is better than winning the World Series? Winning the World Series during your final career game for a team that hadn’t won in over 100 years. David dedicated the dance to that win. Bruno thinks David still has the vitality of a spring chicken because of all of his jumping. Carrie Ann thinks David might have been running for home, but loved the enthusiasm. A bonus for David and Lindsay, was that the Chicago Cubs had a rain delay, so they played their dance live. That has to earn some extra callers!

Rashad Jennings with Emma Slater
“Unconditionally” by Katy Perry
Contemporary
Rashad learned the true meaning of unconditional love when he gave up his football scholarship to help his father after he needed his leg amputated. Rashad danced with his heart on his sleeve. At the end of the routine, he ran over to his father, got on his knees, and they just hugged each other and cried. Carrie Ann believes Rashad missed his calling, and should have been a dancer. Julianne could hardly speak. She said “emotion equals emotion. What you just did, I have no words for.”

Erika Jayne with Gleb Savchenko
“Express Yourself” By Madonna
Cha Cha
Erika did what many people dream of: move to New York to become a star. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Eventually, her manager wanted her to move to Los Angeles, and the rest is history. Carrie complimented Erika for bringing her all to the dance floor, while Len wants to see less sex appeal, and more dancing.

Simone Biles with Sasha Farber
“Good Good Father” by Chris Tomlin
Viennese Waltz
Simone’s most memorable year was when her grandparents officially adopted her, and removed her from foster care. Simone began the dance in tears, ended the dance in tears, and ran to her grandparents hysterically crying. The judges were happy to see the imperfection in Simone last night, and leaning on her partner Sasha more than ever before. Len simply said, it was your best dance so far, well done. Tom asked Simone how she can still dance while undergoing all of those emotions. Simone simply said, “muscle memory.”

Bonner Bolton with Sharna Burgess
“Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé
Foxtrot
Just last year, Bonner’s profession as a bull rider nearly took his life. He fell off of the bull, and landed on his head. He broke his neck, and was temporarily paralyzed. Now, he is killing it on DWTS. Julianne and Bruno said that for once, Bonner was leading the dance, instead of Sharna. Len said Bonner’s footwork needs some work, but officially welcomed him to the competition.
