DWTS Recap: Vegas Night!

For everyday people, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. For the Dancing with the Stars cast, that’s not the case. Entertainment Tonight revealed all of the dances this week will have a casino theme. Dance partners are expected to step up their choreography. Chances are, a gamble like that won’t go well for everyone.

It was rumored that Charo might quit DWTS. Her reactions the past two weeks were certainly entertaining to viewers, but possibly too unpredictable for producers to handle. Charo settled all of the gossip by taking to Instagram. She proclaimed her love for the show, and encouraged followers to vote #teamcuchicuchi.

I am NOT quitting @dancingabc I love the show and want to stay awhile! Vote #teamcuchicuchi #dwts24 #dwts

Judge Julianne and her brother Derek Hough performed a dance together from their upcoming tour, Move Beyond. To Julianne and Derek, the dance was made to receive some sort of closure from their parents’ divorce. Breakups are always difficult, but it is that much harder when children are involved. The emotion from both of them radiated through the screen, to us on our couch. We will never know the full story of what Julianne and Derek went through during that time, but the dance served as a form of therapy for them.

Maks is out again this week, leaving Heather to dance with Alan. The recovery time for Maks is still unclear. Worst case scenario, he can never dance again. Best case scenario, he is back next week. The Wendy team is hoping for the best case scenario here! In the mean time, Heather will be channeling her inner Britney Spears, which she has done more than once before. She claims that it will be different from past Britney moments, because it is ballroom (a dancing style she is not familiar with). Before we know it, people might start a “leave Heather alone” movement!

Nick Viall with Peta Murgatroyd
“Poker Face” By Lady Gaga
Tango
Nick attempted to overcome his fears this week by being the first to dance. Len was content with the dance this week, saying that it was better than last week. Julianne said the tango is the dance for Nick. Carrie Ann even went as far to say that Nick and Peta had a regal presence! It’s obvious that Nick is trying his best and he really wants to win the Mirrorball.

Mr. T with Kym Herjavec
“Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” by Robbie Williams
Foxtrot
Kym wanted to show a different side to Mr. T this week. He aimed to be sophisticated, and he showed us sophisticated! Julianne called the dance beautiful. Bruno admitted that Mr. T cleaned up very well, and that this dance style was made for him. Mr. T gave just enough this week, without being too over the top. Mr. T felt his best with his dance this week, and it was evident with his highest score yet.

Bonner Bolton with Sharna Burgess
“A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” by Fergie, GoonRock and Q-Tip
Charleston
Sharna saw some difficulties creating choreography this week that Bonner could handle. Maybe the dance moves were too difficult for Bonner to keep up with or maybe it was the dry dessert air. Either way, Bonner’s timing was visibly off. Len had the nicest comments to say out of all the judges, remarking that Bonner’s personality was seen through the dance. All of the judges commented that Bonner was off, and not sharp enough. Maybe he picked up a bad case of Nick Viall.

Heather Morris with Maksim Chmerkovskiy Alan Bersten
“Toxic” by Britney Spears
Tango
It looks like Maks’ pointers from the hospital paid off. Plus, Alan and Heather are anything but toxic together. They might be more in tune than Heather and Maks! The judges showered Heather and Alan with great comments, including how Heather went all in during this dance, her great chemistry with Alan, and how awesome Heather looked in her outfit. Looks aside, Heather received the first nine of the season!

Charo with Keo Motsepe
“Chapel of Love” by The Dixie Cups
Foxtrot
Charo and Keo are making great strides together and bring out the best in each other. The judges thought this was a refreshed version of Charo, but Carrie Ann missed seeing some of her personality.

Simone Biles with Sasha Farber
“Viva Las Vegas” by Elvis Presley
Quickstep
This dance channels everything that is Simone, except for the fact that she hardly knows a thing about Elvis. Despite that, this happy go lucky dance showed off the best side of Simone. Simone is so used to restraining her emotions during the Olympics. All the judges agreed it is something she has to work on, but Carrie Ann was in complete shock that Sasha held Simone’s hands during one of her jumps, when she knows full well Simone is capable of doing it on her own.

Nancy Kerrigan with Artem Chigvintsev
“Shake Your Bon-Bon” by Ricky Martin
Samba
Nancy and Artem got a dose of the bon-bon shaker himself this week! Ricky Martin eased Nancy’s nerves, and reminded her that this is all just about having fun. Artem was completely star struck. If it wasn’t enough to be partnered with an Olympian, now he got to meet his childhood idol. Len and Julianne called this the best samba they have seen on the show. Ricky would be more than proud of their performance.

David Ross with Lindsay Arnold
“Candy Shop” By 50 Cent
Jazz
If you were watching this with your children, let’s just hope you sent them to bed before things got hot and heavy. David channeled his inner “Magic Mike” this week, and he is just hoping his own kids don’t remember this a few years from now. The dance was fun, entertaining, sexy, and well executed. David attributed his locker room twerking to his awesome gyrating skills on stage. The sex appeal gave them their highest score so far!

Erika Jayne with Gleb Savchenko
“Take Me to Heaven” by Patina Miller, Debbie Kurup and Amy Booth-Steel
Jive

Legend has it, those that perform the jive are either wonderful or awful. This routine was probably somewhere in-between. Erika lost her footing at times and she fell out of sync with Gleb. Carrie Ann admitted she docked a point because of the extended lift in the opening of the dance. Erika’s flexibility didn’t save her this time.

Rashad Jennings with Emma Slater
“Swalla” By Jason Derulo feat. Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign
Samba
They might be in Vegas, but Emma is not going easy on Rashad. She is determined to stay on top and Rashad appreciates her pointers. Rashad’s smooth, but the judges aren’t convinced that this was his best work. Julianne blamed the song, Bruno blamed the footing, and Len blamed his flat feet. Not every dance can be their best dance, but these two want to put out nothing less than the best, and this week their score went down.

Normani Kordei with Valentin Chmerkovskiy
“Big Spender” by Shirley Bassey
Foxtrot
Last week it was Thailand, this week it was Hong Kong for Normani and Valentin. Some might believe that traveling so much would work against these two, but it seems to actually be doing the opposite. The travel is bringing Normani and Valentin closer, which makes it easier to dance together. Bruno called it the best dance of the night. Julianne compared it to a Broadway performance. DWTS saved the best for last this week.

This week, the two couples left at the bottom were Charo with Keo (again), and Nick with Peta. Last night, we said goodbye to #teamcoochiecoochie. Just when Charo started to settle down a bit, she was sent home. Despite her refined attitude last night, she told Bruno to meet her in the parking lot after the show. We think she’s kidding… maybe.
