We are thrilled that Late Late Show host James Corden is hosting the Grammys on Sunday.
While it’s not Corden’s first time hosting an award show (he brought down the house during the 2016 Tony Awards), it is the first time in five years that LL Cool J is not hosting the Grammys.
LL Cool J is the G.O.A.T and did a phenomenal job hosting from 2012-2016, especially in 2012, when he had to host the Grammys the day after music icon Whitney Houston passed away.
Corden has been preparing for the Grammys by “throwing up from time to time, crying and wondering if it’s too late to change my mind,” he told NY Daily News. Don’t sweat it, James. You got this.
Here are six things you should know about Grammy host James Corden!
He’s an OBE (Officer of the British Empire)
If the Queen honors James Corden, then we should honor him too. James went to Buckingham Palace, which he said is “not too shabby,” and received a medal. Luckily, the newfound royalty hasn’t gone to James’ head (yet). He believed “every nurse, and social worker, and teacher” deserved it more than him. He’s a humble guy – just one of the many reasons we love him.
He’s Been on Broadway, and Won a Tony
James Corden always had a love for theatre. He made his Broadway debut in 2006, when he played Timms in The History Boys. Six years later, he played a workingman in One Man, Two Guvnors. While he received rave reviews for his Broadway performance, he never expected to win a Tony. He was just happy to be nominated. James proved to us, yet again, how selfless he is.
He Has a Wife and 2 Children
In the same year James won a Tony Award, he married wife Julia Carey. They met through a mutual friend in 2010, and have been inseparable ever since. Julia gave birth to their first child, Max, in 2011. In 2014, their daughter, Carey, was born. We wouldn’t be mad if these two kept making babies, because they are cuter than Suzanne’s kitten heels.
He Does a Dance Class 3 Times a Week
No, we aren’t talking about todleography. We are talking about PyloJam. This workout is basically a dance routine, fused with plyometrics. “I lost 70 lbs. I want to lose another 30lb,” James told British GQ.
Beyoncé is His Dream Carpool Karaoke
Carpool Karaoke has become something we look forward to here at the Wendy office. Some of our top favorites include Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and Adele, who remains the most watched Carpool Karaoke to date. James Corden gets amazing guests for this segment sensation, but just like us, he has aspirations. “[The dream would be] Beyoncé. It would break the internet.” James said to British GQ in 2016. Of course he wants Queen Bey. Beyoncé’s fan base knows no boundaries. Seeing that Beyoncé is now pregnant with twins, this Carpool Karaoke fantasy may have to wait a bit.
He Was Left No Choice But to Cut Off Adele’s Speech
James was forced to pull a Kanye during Adele’s acceptance speech at the 2012 Brit Awards for album of the year. The audience was annoyed, but she took it pretty well despite flipping James the bird. “She was incredibly sweet and understanding,” James told British talk show host Jonathan Ross. Considering she went on to do Carpool Karaoke, we’d say they are just fine.
