Celebrity Food Trends

Celebrities always look fit and fabulous because of the great foods they eat. Nutritionist to the stars, Tanya Zuckerbrot shows us the hottest celebrity food trends!

Bone Broth: Clear, concentrated meaty elixir made from boiling roasted bones (beef knuckles, chicken necks, oxtails, soup bones etc) for 12-48 hours that has a plethora of restorative and health properties. One serving of bone broth only contains about 18 calories and has a plethora of vitamins and minerals. The two magic components of bone broth are two amino acids called proline and glycine. These two amino acids work to help our connective tissue strengthen joints, cartilage, arteries, muscles and organs. Without the strength of proline and glycine, our bodies could quite literally fall apart.

Beauty food: Bone broth is a rich source of collagen. Collagen creates a radiated face and can promote the growth of nails and hair.

Digestive health: Gelatin from the bones can smooth intestines and the digestive tract, eliminating chronic constipation, food intolerances and daily bloating.

Immune health: The bone marrow from the bone supports a healthy immune system.

Protects joints: The chondroitin sulfate in bone broth has been shown to help prevent osteoarthritis.

Celebrity Fans: Shailene Woodley and Kobe Bryant

Seaweed: By now Americans are used to seaweed in their sushi and as a snack, but people are starting to think outside the maki roll and using it in a variety of different ways (in salads, making pestos, spicing up their popcorn etc), and for good reason too, it can be a great food to help you lose weight.

Jamie Oliver has credited his recent weight loss to eating seaweed, he calls it “the most nutritious vegetable in the world”. Seaweed is flavorful and low in calories so it’s a way to add flavor (and nutrition) to dishes while remaining diet-friendly. 2 Tbsp seaweed contains 4 calories. It contains vitamins A, C, E, K and B vitamins, iodine, selenium, calcium, iron and fiber.

Beauty food: Seaweed is loaded with B vitamins, which will help clear up your skin. Seaweed has a restorative ability to prevent damage to amino acids and protect the cell’s membranes, which basically means it helps with anti-aging.

Weight loss aid: It’s low calorie and contains fiber so eating seaweed can help you to feel fuller without eating more calories. It also contains alginate, which inhibits the enzymes that digest fat, so less is absorbed by the body.

Ancient Grains: Ancient grains are 100% whole-grains like kamut, bulgur, farro, buckwheat, quinoa, millet, teff, amaranth, sorghum. Farro, spelt, kamut, freekeh have much better nutritional profiles than the common grains. These contain gluten, but some people who are mildly intolerant of regular wheat find they are able to digest these better.
Sorghum is gluten-free grain; millet and teff are tiny gluten-free grains that are high in calcium and magnesium. Amaranth is also gluten-free and has 3x the fiber and protein of modern, common grains like wheat and corn.

Celebrities love ancient grains because they’re very nutritious and can help you lose weight. They’re full of B-vitamins which are helpful for digestion and good for stress and mood. Ancient grains are higher in fiber than refined grains and fiber keeps you full. The more fiber in your diet, the less snacking and munching you do throughout the day, which leads to weight loss. These ancient grains are growing in popularity so Look for them in bars, cereals, and even in frozen meals.

Kombucha: A probiotic beverage that stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna are a fan of because it has a myriad of health benefits including, improved digestion, fighting candida (harmful yeast) overgrowth, mental clarity and mood stability. You can brew it at home with a few simple ingredients – hot water, sugar, black tea, and a SCOBY bacteria (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast)
