Nail expert and New York’s own Qiana Aviles owns the popular Nail Lounge in Washington Heights and her technicians special in elaborate and trendy nail art designs!
Nail blogger Yazmin Ramos sat down with Qiana Aviles at Nail Lounge to find out what inspired her to start her own business, what Spring nail polish colors are in style and much more!
Nail Candy: What inspired you to open Nail Lounge?
Qiana: I’ve always been into nails and a few years ago I was looking to start my own business. I wanted to combine the atmosphere of a lounge with the friendliness of a nail salon and that’s how Nail Lounge was created!
Nail Candy: Did you have another name for your nail salon before naming it Nail Lounge?
Qiana: Yes!! [Laughs] I was thinking Nail Bar, but it was taken!! [laughs]
Nail Candy: How old were you when you got your first manicure?
Qiana: I was 10 years old and I sneaked behind my mother’s back and got acrylic tips. She was upset about it because I was only 10 years old and my nail bed wasn’t even matured. She was also disappointed because she thought I was too young to have such “grown up” nails.
Nail Candy: Who is your dream celebrity client?
Qiana: Oprah!! I admire her! Oprah does basic manicures and pedicures so I would love to get her out of her comfort zone and try a nail art design on two fingers.
Nail Candy: Do you have experience with doing nails?
Qiana: I have no professionally trained experience doing nails, and I would love to get a Nail Technician license one day, but I tackle it from a different perspective. I make it my job to stay on top of the hottest trends and I think that’s what makes me so successful.
Nail Candy: What nail polish colors do you recommend this year for spring?
Qiana: Mint green is a beautiful color for Spring and I also love light blue.
