Money Saving Tips for 2012
It’s a new year and the perfect time to get control of our finances.
Financial expert Stacey Tisdale, author of “The True Cost of Happiness,” reveals simple money saving tips that can help you get control of your finances in 2012.

1. Come up with a personal goal: Financial goals need to be realistic like saving money for a vacation or putting a specific amount of money into your retirement account.
2. Put 10% of your salary in savings: It’s always a good idea to automatically take 10% out of your salary and put it towards your emergency or retirement funds. The internet can be a good place to help manage your finances. Consider using Smarty Pig, a free online piggy bank for people saving for specific financial goals like a vacation, wedding, new TV, etc.
If you’re trying to save for retirement, again, figure out what your ideal retirement looks like. Kiplingers has a great retirement calculator and helps you figure out how much you’ll need and adjustments in your lifestyle that you may need to make now in order to reach your retirement goals.
3. Cut back at home: Find creative ways to cut back your home/entertainment expenses. For example, instead of going out to the movies, why not rent one? Or give “I Owe You” gifts to your partner that say, “I’ll take the trash out every week for a month,” instead of buying a gift.
Also visit PGTRYIT.com to get some great money saving coupons for everyday items. You can get coupons for some of your favorite brands like Vicks, Charmin and Swiffer and even discover some products you haven’t tried yet.
4. Take a look at yourself: If you’re not meeting your financial goals, take a look at yourself and figure out why. Are you trying to “keep up with the Joneses? If you’re telling yourself, “It’s okay if I go into debt” or “I just can’t save money,” you’re wrong. Be honest with yourself and make changes to your spending habits. Instead of going on a vacation twice a year, maybe you only go once.
5. Look at your relationships: Times are tough and a lot of your friends or family may be unemployed. If you loan your friends or family money, there’s a good chance you may not get it back. Only loan money if you can afford to not have it yourself. Don’t feel bad about not giving and ask yourself if you’re loaning your friend or family money for a good reason.

Thanks for the tips! Saving money and making smart financial decisions has been one of my top priorities for 2012, and so far…so good! One way I’ve been saving is by using this app My Style Fashion Assistant. It helps me create outfits based on what I already have in closet, which helped me realize that I can call off the shopping trips! I’ve got quite a versatile collection which allows me to mix and match for every season. Maybe a few accessory purchases here and there, but nothing major. So at the end of the day, I’ll be well dressed with a sound budget

Enjoyed the show today (took a day off work)!! Loved Ms. Kiki – she’s a beautiful young lady. Wanted to comment on the show, specifically on the money borrowing tip… I JUST explained to my son the part about “dont borrow unless you can think of it as Giving the money”.
Hope to see you in the audience soon. Saw you here in Milwaukee!
Be Blessed!
