Michelle Obama: Angry Black Woman?

Are we still talking about this?

From the moment Barack Obama started running for president, the media and some members of the public have tried to label Michelle Obama as an “angry black woman.”

New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor claims in her new book, “The Obamas,” that the First Lady is a strong force and source of conflict in the West Wing of the White House, which the First Lady disputed in a recent interview with Gayle King on “CBS This Morning.”

Find out what Wendy has to say about the age-old “angry black woman” stereotype.

Take a look.

Tell Us: Do you agree or disagree with Wendy? What do you think about the First Lady being labeled an angry black woman?

  3. People will say anything negative about this woman to make her look bad… She is a strong educated black woman that stand her ground which most ppl hate & i’m loving it. She has proved how strong she can be to this country in a professional way (i guess not good enough). I have never heard sooo much hate towards any president or 1st family as the “Obamas” this (1st black family) get my up most respect :)
Keep hope alive & i pray for all you hateful ppl…

  4. Lets keep it real, she is the”First Lady, she is a Harvard Grad ,married to a nice man and a nice looking man with 2 beautiful kids ,got money and can get a job anywhere, has been all over the world . White America does not know what makes black people tick so they make up statements that really affect them, not us. I am angry because I am 61 unemployed no help no kids ,but I know I am still blessed and that God will provide .Before you make blanket statements about people you should know the people .Michelle does not care if those folks on the hill do not listen to her but the must respect her ,we do not have to like each other .

  5. TO MEN: that would speak against their own women of their own culture I would like to say that there are plenty of angry black women because there are plenty of pathetic black men. Men of any race or culture should be the protectors and providers of the women and children of their culture. Often times black women can become angry because black men have left them unprotected and without provisions. Women who must them protect and provide for themselves develop a callous which enables them to survive. Essentially black women must be the man because we have so many men flacking on fulfilling that role. If you want proof, look at your mothers, that’s right, I said yo mama. How many guys out there are from a single mother. Do you think your mother raised you and all your siblings and did not get an attitude once? Now, look at your fathers. Where is he? Has he abandoned his role as a man and let his women and children unprotected and without provision. Your mother must now take on the role of being protector and provided and nurturer, a task for which she is not well suited. An attitude is necessary for survival!

Now look at you, how despicable is it for an African American men to speak against their own women, the very same women who breed you, this makes you less than a man.

  6. The first lady is not an angry black woman, she is a strong black woman! go michelle, tell them how u feel! don’t hold back! i luv u wendy! a true fan!

  7. Hello Ms Wendy,
Granting that Michelle Obama is an angry black woman, so what? She can be whatever she wants to be. Now, with Nene, I love that clip you showed when you talked about the angry black woman. That was perfect. And P.S. I LOVE THAT NENE LEAKES. THAT ANGRY BLACK WOMAN.
Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your show. I discovered your show last year by accident and been watching you ever since. When I went to Europe last summer, I had withdrawals from not watching you. When are you going to be HD? I bet you would look really good on HD. Hope to watch your show when I go to New York next month.
    Thanks,
    Saffonda

  8. I strongly believe that first lady, Michelle Obama, is a strong, black, phenomenal woman. She handles herself professionally and with the utmost of class. She is not an angry black woman. They’re scared of this educated, intelligent and beautiful black woman.

That clip showing NeNe Leakes as an “angry black woman” was right on target.

  9. There doesn’t have to be a big fight about it. No fight at all. Just take notice of who’s getting the marriage proposals in the nation. Even a once-down-rated-homo stands a better chance. But it’s cool… just let the angry black women KEEP the microphone… and let the fellas keep it on the down low.

    PEACE

  10. I don’t necessarily feel Michelle Obama, herself, is angry. (Even though I do not doubt the tendencies are there.)

HOWEVER, I feel that there are a substantial number of “Angry Black Women” in America. Everyone knows this.

The term just didnt’ come from nowhere, face it. It’s either anger or a high, high likeability of self-entitlement. Either way you slice it, Brothers don’t like it, EVIDENTLY.

Why else is 70% of them single. [rhetorical]

  11. I don’t feel that she is angry person. I feel that people have nothing to talk about, so they want to put her down, because she is doing good things and make people aware of some of the issue that is going on in the world that people like to sweep under the rug. You know that being black and doing good only give people something to talk about. People could handle it better if she just seat back and did nothing, then they would call her a lazy black woman. I feel that she is a great woman and she has it going on.

  12. It’s better to dwell in the corner of a housetop (and you know the rest).

  13. According to all the tabloids she has been kicking and screaming the whole time in the house, but now that it’s that time. Sincere love, a true fan of the show.

  14. Angela Basset (in Waiting to Exhale)
    Mo’Nique (on any given re-run)
LaWanda Page (on Sanford and Son)
    Jackee Harry (on Sister Sister)
    Brandy Norwood (on Moesha)
    Oprah Winfrey (on Color Purple)
    Isabel Sanford (on Jefferesons)
Tichina Arnold (on Martin and Everybody Hates Chris)
Wendy Raquel Robinson (on The Game)
Ne Ne Leakes (on Trash Box/YouTube)

just to name a few off the top of my head of celebrated women…

and the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on… … …

    nice hot topic!

The Wendy Show (dot) (com) is such a fun cite.

    LOVE FROM A DUDE
