Eddie Murphy Steps Down as Oscar Host

And the Oscar goes to…

Eddie Murphy was in the wings, preparing to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards, but stepped down after the executive producer and his close friend, Brett Ratner, was forced to resign due to a gay slur he made.

Find out who Wendy thinks should replace Eddie at the 11th hour to host this year’s Academy Awards.

Take a look.

Tell Us: Who do you think should replace Eddie? Do you think Eddie made a mistake by stepping down?

  1. i cant believe it but he have until february so….

  2. Hey let’s get the best person who is out there now, Wendy Williams I think that she would do an outstanding job!

  3. I would love to see Chris Tucker!

  4. I like Billy Crystal. I believe he’s the guy who says, “You look marvelous!”

  5. Well, when Eddie Murphy dropped out, I went, that show’s going to tank 56 percent in the ratings because of no standout host. And people will watch something else, maybe some cheesy, badly acted 1986 movie on the rival cable network. But I don’t think that Eddie wanted to be caught up in that mess that Brett Ratner got in when Brett stepped down. But Billy Crystal is now the new Oscars host! Billy will pull in those viewers–people remember him more. He was getting those 35 to 45 million plus viewers each year (even 55 million in 1998!) that he was on from the ’90s to 2004. I’m sorry that Eddie isn’t going to do it, but I’m really looking forward to seeing next year’s Oscars.

  6. Oh, okay, according to TMZ, “… following uproar over a homophobic slur Ratner dropped at a film screening.”

I don’t blame Murphy one bit, because I don’t think that type of thing should be taken lightly. No woman likes hearing the “B” word; no African American likes hearing the “N” word; no homosexual likes hearing the “F” word. I’m proud of Eddie Murphy for having standards… even though many would rather dwell on the fact that Murphy quit, ignoring the root of the problem.

Frankly, I’ve already begun losing respect for the Oscars. In other words, for the life of me, I just cannot see where recipients such as Hudson or Mo’Nique had demonstrated that much talent or skill. Granted, I want to write, but the Academy surely is not my motivation.

Mr. Eddie Murphy will be just fine, I’m sure.

    Peace and love always.

  7. That chick from housewives ney ney hosting the Oscars? Sounds like a very bad joke. The Academy Awards is such a prestigious event. Someone in one of my film courses used Ne Ne as an “example” in a course project (not being specific) but you get my drift. She may be rich, if you say so, but not Oscar material. More Hood material. Maybe she’d be good to present one to Best Supporting Actress in a sitcom like Jackee or something. But not The Host of the Academy Awards. Only in a bad dream.

  8. I keep hearing EDDIE QUIT… when people need to be hearing WHO slung the “F” word. That’d be the same if somebody had slung the “N” word or something. It’s interesting how all the emphasis is placed on Eddie rather than the OFFENDER.

Who was the offender? I’d really like to know.

  9. It is not clear to me “who” made the gay slur. If it were made clear as to WHO made the remark, THEN I could form an opinion. I’d really be interested to know. The wording of the story is not very clear. It said gay slur “he” made… who the hello is “HE?” There were, like, three different males named; therefore,

who/what is the antecedent to “he?”

    a.l.t.
