Is Halle Berry Really Playing the Queen of Soul?

A Wendy Exclusive.

Aretha Franklin called in to the Wendy Show a few weeks ago to speak exclusively to Wendy and set the record straight about her health.

She made headlines when she said Halle Berry would play her in her biopic.

Later at the Golden Globes, Halle Berry said she didn’t think she was up for the part.

Aretha later called and left a message for Wendy to clarify her comments.

Take a look at what Ms. Franklin had to say and find out who Wendy thinks should play the Queen of Soul if Halle doesn’t take the part!

  1. Put some teeth in her mouth to get rid of her gap and Chrisette Michelle would be perfect. I would have suggested Jill Scott but her acting is so so and although I love her she doesn’t have Arethas range and she is to iconic to have someone that can’t sing If debra cox was still hot I would have suggested her but white ppl would be like who is that chick and Halle is so not it I just think the queen wanted to be able to say she had that prettiest woman in the world play her in her life story I know I would. Another good choice (even though she can’t sing) Kerry Washington . That girl can act her ass off but I still say Chrisette she’s the right size and she can really saaang.

  2. I BELIEVE ALL THE ACTRESS MENTIONED ARE GREAT. BUT IT IS TIME TO OPEN THE DOOR TO SOMEONE FRESH AND NEW. SO LET’S GIVE SOMEONE ELSE A CHANCE TO SHINE AND MAKE SOME MONEY. IT IS TIME!!!!!!!

  3. Jennifer Hudson or an unknown will be outstanding choice. Halle Berry matched (unstable nuances of) Dorothy Dandridge. Aretha is ICONIC! That REAL essence takes finesse acting so that the focus is on ARETHA FRANKLIN’s life, not the acting actress!

  4. I think that all of these choices are kinda bad. I think that doing another music-themed film would not be a great choice for Jennifer Hudson. I know Aretha is her idol, but she doesn’t resemble her in the slightest. I think Jazmin Sullivan would be perfect. We all know she has the vocals. I’m sure she can act (everyone is a multi-talented star these days) She also has the look. Especially if they have scenes with a young Aretha. They’re practically twins. Fantasia would be a bad choice, I’m sorry but her speaking voice would be a problem. Aretha has a husky quality to her voice.

  5. Wendy…I agree with ur choice of Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah. I hope Ms.Franklin and her people listen to you and her fans.

  6. Love your picks Wendy! Jennifer Hudson and/or Queen Latifah would be great! Taraji P. Heson(one of my favorite actresses) would be awesome too. Remember she acted as a singer in one of Tyler Perry’s movies (I forget which one, but Gladys Knight is in it too). Anyway, I hope Ms. Franklin’s people were toned in to your suggestions…you never know

  7. Although i love Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson. I think Yolanda Adams should play the Queen of Soul!!!

  8. JILL SCOTT should play Ree-Ree.

  9. No, not Halle, not Taraji, not Fantasia Chrissete Michelle?! Unh , uh. My pic?…. Jennifer before she lost all that weight could ‘ve done the entire movie. She still may be able to pull it off with Hollywood “do-ups”.I agree with others; there may be an unknown who can step up as well.

  10. lord i wish i could have been on the show i would have loved 2 be this conversation

  11. Let’s keep it real….the only one out there that can play the queen of soul is Jennifer Hudson.
Fantasia is an okay singer, but not that great of an actress.
No disrespect to Halle…..but NO WAY can she play someone like Aretha Franklin

  12. hello wendy…i love your show i think your just the best at what you do….and ps i think halle berry woul be the best for the part…been trying to reach you thru emails…..love you wendy………hasan from new york….

  13. My pick would be Chrisette Michele because she can play the piano and sing, which are talents that Aretha possesses! Yeah! She would be perfect for the part!

  14. I defineitly dont think Ms. Halle is good enought to play the QUEEN. Personally Halle is not the best actor, nor would she protray the best soul singin Hip swinging diva such as Aretha Franklin. So here is my list:
    Fantasia Barrino
    Faith Evans
    Queen Latifah
    Taraji P. Henson
or some little known soul singer in a back alley juke joint. Hey Precious made headlines a a new actress.

  15. I think some one full of soul should play the QUEEN an one person comes to mind with personality the looks and the attitude whom i think can pull it off thats Queen Latifah! she has all qualities even if her voice is not good as the original QUEENS they can make it work! thats my pic tell me what you think. (my sister from another mother)

  16. Hey Wendy, How you dancin?? Fabulous as usual, all 11 votes for you!!!! Anywho, as far as someone playing ms. Franklin, part of me thinks it should be a no name, to give it light. But Hally did Dorthey Danderge, so someone else should play the queen! I’m watchin tonight wendy, with my fingers crossed, you got this girl.

  17. Wendy, How u Dancin? That said my choice would be Toni Braxton. But it depends on what Ms. Franklin is looking for. If she ‘s looking for someone who has her look as well as can already sing, I think Toni comes close. Now if she’s just looking for the one who can protray her the best as an actor, the canidates can go on and on . But put a picture of the two of them up and see the resembelance. Love you Wendy, Miz T in Indiana

  18. Hi Wendy!!!!!!!! I think Fantasia Barrino would be an excellent choice.

  19. Wendy I feel as though Jennifer Hudson would be a better choice because she can sing, no disrespect to Halle Berry they need someone with some soul or maybe Fantasia Barrino would even be a good choice.

    Love you Wendy

  20. DEAR WENDY, HALLE BERRY AS MS. ARETHA FRANKLIN NO MA’AM .JENNIFER HUDSON IS AWESOME. BUT I KNOW SOME ONE ELSE . HER NAME DESIREE COLEMAN JACKSON YOU MAY REMEMBER FROM MAMA I WANT TO SING. GET HER ON YOUR SHOW AND LET HER PERFORM. YOU’LL SEE WENDY. IT WILL JUST BE GOOD. ……..FRANNY FROM OHIO
