Dear Wendy:
I have to tell you something. Henry Winkler is an amazing wonderful person. When I was a kid, I came from a broken home and was in and out of foster homes. Basically I bounced around a lot. However, I always knew I could improve my life if I could just get an education. Well when I was a Junior in high school, I was introduced to program in L.A, called the United Friends of the Children. they help college bound foster kids get prepared for life outside of the system. They provide financial help and support and so much more. Well, one of the highlights of the program is that at the end of the school year the United Friends in conjunction with the Independant Living Program of Los Angeles, puts on a beautiful graduation ceremony for foster children who are off to college at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Michael Bolton and Patti LaBelle came and sang for us that year. They gave us all beuatiful dresses to wear (or suits for the boys), and just made it a really special evening. However, I will never forget that Mr. Winkler was there. He spoke to all of us about how he struggled to get into college, and told us how proud of us he was. He is an outspoken advocate for foster children and I have so much respect for him. Thanks to the United Friends and the support of people like Mr. Winkler, I am a college graduate and recently graduated from law school as well. I graduated from high school in 1991, so it has been quite a while, but you should know that he is an inspiration and he does many good things. I thank him and the United Friends from the bottom of my heart. They made a difference in my life. That’s it Wendy. Please pass this message along to him. He won’t remember me but that’s ok.
