Jeans 101
Finding the perfect pair of jeans isn’t easy.
When you’re shopping for jeans, the 2 most important things to consider are fit and comfort.
Lucky magazine’s fashion director, Hope Greenberg, gives us tips for finding affordable jeans for all body types.
Tip #1: If petite, stay away from boot-cut or flared jeans
For petite girls, less is more. Don’t wear boot or flared jeans. Instead, look for a pair of super-straight cut jeans. Cropped jeans are also flattering and show a bit of ankle!
Sleeveless floral blouse XS, Madewell, $88
Beige, linen vest XS, Madewell, $78
Gold bangles (wrist) 5 qty, Lucky Jewelry
Jeans, 42 petite, Banana Republic, $89.50
Grey heels, Lucky Closet (Xoxo)
Tip #2: For white jeans, find a pair that’s thick enough to conceal any bulges beneath
Don’t be afraid of white, especially in the summer. The trick is finding a pair that is think enough to cover up any bulges beneath. You can cuff the pants, which is a great way to rein in the extra volume. Also, become best friends with your tailor; they can help make the jeans you try on in the store fit like a glove.
Striped shirt BCBG, small, navy/white, $68
Ann Taylor beige jacket, 6P, $158
J. Crew green belt, $35
2 large gold bangles, Lucky Closet
Ann Taylor denim pant, white 2P, $59.99
Beige shoes, Aerosoles, $39.99 (originally $69)
Tip #3: Compliment round hips with boot cut jeans
The Gap is great for tall girls because they have a tall-specific category on their website where you can find both super-long and curvy styles.
Floral shirt, Zara, $49.90
Beige sweater vest, Banana Republic, $79.50
12 L Gap bootleg denim pant, $69.50
Silver belt, Banana Republic, $49.50
Nude patent leather sandal, Lucky Closet
Silver necklace, Lucky Closet
Silver bangles, Lucky Closet
Tip #4: Chose high rise jeans to flatten your mid-section
Not Your Daughter’s Jeans are great because they have a slightly higher-rise, which means that they really vacuum the mid-section in. Cuff the pant to eliminate any extra volume at the cuff, to create a really clean line, and make sure that they’re absolutely fitted through the leg.
Green lace-up heel, Aldo, $90
Club Monaco bright blue belt, $39
Grey stretch denim pant, Macy’s, Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, $98
J. Crew light blue blouse, $48
Gap, navy boy’s school blazer, $98
