  1. Wycleff has been helping Haiti for years. Anyone who doubts this should be ashamed because Someone Else tells you what they want you to know. Knowledge is power. Who is it to say the others celebrities are not doing this for the publicity. So many help and they don’t want people to know as much as they want to help – Janet and Michael helped so many and it was never really publicized unless you really had to look and also Beyonce and the Knowles family for what they did for Katrina. Wake up and support others

  2. HI WENDY HOW YOU DOIN, I WOULD LIKE TO START OFF BY SAYING THAT MY FAMILY IS STUGGLEING IN HAITI AN ALOT OF MY FAMILY ARE NOT COUNTED FOR EVERY 1 IS CALLING WYCLEFF ORGINZITION A SCAM NEVA ,HE WILL NOT LET HIS PEOPLE STRUGGLE, AS A BLACK MAN THAT HE IS AN GROW UP IN HAITI, HE WILL NOT LET HIS PEOPLE LIVE LIKE THAT, SO TO ALL THE HATERS STOP HATING ON HAITI AN HELP. THANK YOU WENDY PLEASE CONTINUE BEING WHO YOU ARE LOVE YA MY FRIEND IN MY HEAD.

  3. WOW. Blacks believe everything the media says negatively about us. YELE is a good charity, it’s only getting bad press because white organizations feel threathened by it. It will expose that others are not actually giving all while Yele is and has. Don’t believe the lies and hype people. Think about this: Why does it appear that whites are only helping Haiti but we’re not?!? I know many of blacks who are helping and Wyclef is one of them. Don’t believe the white media.

  4. Do donate to Yele and other organizations. Don’t believe the lies you hear. And ask yourself why now…why the bad news now?!?! Why is the media making it seem like only whites are contributing!!?!?

  5. THANK YOU WENDY FOR NOT BELIEVING THE HYPE!!!!

I was disgusted by the false reports that yele.org has misappropriated funds. Wyclef has been helping his people for years, and now he is being investigated!?!? This is due to big organizations feeling threathened by a black man who ACTUALLY WANTS to help BLACK people. These ‘other’ organizations are making pledges while yele.org has actually DONATED. This is one of the few organizations that want to help and does help Haitians…how much of these ‘other’ organizations will give to the black people of Haiti. With that said, I LOVE YA WENDY. No, I’m on the yele.org’s payroll.

    other: big corporate america

  6. How u doing,Wendy. First and most of all, most of these company’s have had problem in the passed. But what is important is that they still help people in needed. So that’s it, ln a nut shell, thats is what we need for the people of Haiti’s right now, donations, donations, donations and to who ever you feel like doing it to that what is important period dot… Just do it and don’t point at anyone just doing it,make a difference love not hate. Lov ya, my freind in my head,Richelle G

  7. It’s funny because every time it’s time to help BLACK people we come up with a fraud scam accusation.. STOP IT !!! Give to the charity!! Wycleff has his own money from him selling millions of recordes not to mention calaberations he gets royalties from. It sad that we can’t think something with money is trust worthy unless A WHITE MAN IS HOLDING IT !!! I wish you new how many inmates are in the prison I work at WHITE MALES AND WOMAN from money scams and thousands of people being con out of there savings account due to a white person !!!
Black celebrities can be trusted folks…(Joseph Jackson) ok NOT EVERY BLACK !!! You get my point people Trust God and the heart your giving the money with and know that you are doing the right thing by sending !!! Blacks come to gether look in the mirror and say ( Would you give to me if I needed help) and if you tell yourself no..then keep your Da&%$! MONEY !!!

  8. LOVE YOU WENDY!
People of Haiti, you are all in my prayers. To all the people out there, give to whatever organization you want to, but I will not be giving to the Red Cross. They will not be partying off of my money in racist Palm Springs.

  9. I support Wyclef’s organization 200%. He started this program from the ground up and is a hands on individual, being a Haitian. I think the negative press is taking the focus away from his heart and is trying to take money away from his efforts to gear it toward some organizations that pay their CEO’s money from donations. Lets look into their spending habits! Wyclef may be new at the game, but is learning as he goes. Continue to support his efforts and the efforts of those who are working on the frontlines and not giving money donated to “administrative CEO payrolls”.

Stop the madness. Wyclef is the real deal and I urge you to support his organization Yele Haiti. My church, St. Paul Community Baptist Church – pastor David K. Brawley, is helping Wyclef and Yele Haiti in their efforts. Please help Wyclef!

There are plenty of suggestions of where TO donate to Haitian earthquake relief.

Here is where NOT to donate:

Hip Hop artist Wyclef Jean has a “charity” which has been requesting $5 online donations to his “Yele Haiti” Foundation since the day of the earthquake.

    The Washington Post reports:
“It seems clear that a significant amount of the monies that this charity raises go for costs other than providing benefits to Haitians in need,” said Dean Zerbe, national managing director of Alliant Group, a tax services company, and the former tax counsel to the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees charities.

“It brings real caution for donors that want to help in Haiti that they might want to take a harder look at this organization but also consider the significant number of charities that have been doing good work in Haiti that don’t have these question marks,” Zerbe said.

The Smoking Gun has copies of Wyclef Jean’s “Yele Haiti” Foundation documents which show the charity was founded 12 years ago, but only filed income tax returns for the first time in August of 2009, and then only reported for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007.

“…the group paid $31,200 in rent to Platinum Sound, a Manhattan recording studio owned by Jean and Jerry Duplessis, who, like Jean, is a foundation board member…The rent, tax returns assure, “is priced below market value.” The recording studio also was paid $100,000 in 2006 for the “musical performance services of Wyclef Jean at a benefit concert.” That six-figure payout, the tax return noted, “was substantially less than market value.” The return, of course, does not address why Jean needed to be paid to perform at his own charity’s fundraiser.”

Smoking Gun’s review of the foundation’s income tax returns show $300,000 in “consulting fees in 2005-2006 and another $255,000 in “PR and promotion” fees, not itemized or explained further, in 2006.

Wyclef Jean was born in Haiti and has been on the island since the quake, reportedly helping to remove bodies from the rubble and holding news conferences to ask for money for his charity. Jean’s “Yele Haiti” website claims to have raised $1.9 million since the earthquake.

Jean is one of many celebrities scheduled to appear in a televised fundraiser for Haitian relief which is organized by actor George Clooney. The show will air next Friday on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, HBO, CNN and MTV.

Scambusters.org has suggestions on how to choose charities for donating to earthquake relief. Symantec, the internet security service, has reported several online scams for earthquake relief.

  13. Hi Wendy
    You are marvelous

  14. Well let us put ourselves in their position , Would you need help it. No brainer

  15. Hi Wendy

    I have donated already

  16. i think u are pretty

  17. I like so many other people feel helpless and want to do something no matter how small. I attempted to send $5 to the YELE spot, but because I have a block on my cell phone so I won’t get unwanted texts from all over, it did not go through. I will go directly to a site that takes a debit card transaction. I appreciated the opportunity to be able to help with a nominal amount as I am retired and on social security. I hope that says it all. (smile).

I really enjoy Wendy and love to watch the show and know that she is just so down to earth and real and that is rewarding. I am there for the entertainment and the education. It’s a great show and I continue to wish Ms. Wendy loads and loads of success and blessings from our God, Jesus Christ. Smooches to all

  18. As a member of the Jain religion and as a citizen of the world and member of the human race, I am so saddened and moved for the people of Haiti. I have several Haitian friends. Such proud, strong people. I am pleased to donate to several charities to help the Haitian people. Namaste and Jai jinendra. Blessings to Wendy for devoting segments of her show and website to this vital issue.

  19. Please do not donate to Yele Haiti. Unlike the Red Cross, they are not an emergency relief organization. Large first-responders usually have the resources to move money quickly to where it’s needed, either by virtue of prepositioned disaster fund, large pools of money that they can shift among accounts as circumstances warrant, or access to a bridge loan to get money flowing. Yele Haiti, which as of 2007 had no paid staffers and currently, has one employee who works out of the kitchen in Jean’s Manhattan recording studio, has no such capacity. So it can spend whatever money it has on hand—at the end of 2007, it had roughly $500,000 in cash and liabilities of more than $900,000—but after that it has to wait for any donations made over the last three days to actually clear and show up in its bank account. And again, because it is a small player and uses a small firm to process its online donations, that process can take “two weeks to a month.”

  20. Hi Wendy!

I was just perusing the comments in this section of ” Haiti Earthquake Relief” and I stumbled upon a very inappropriate commentary (Friday January 15th, 2010 at 12:35 am, “Wendy I don’t like u… “), that aside from the vulgarity, misspelling, and horrific grammar, this message was especially insignificant to the gamut of recovery efforts for Haiti. This person is clearly bored, uneducated, and despondent. Sometimes if you really have nothing nice to say, it shouldn’t be said at all. Please discontinue that post as it delivers utter nonsense to the caliber of your show and your respectable fans that watch the show and actually take the time to post encouraging words in these concerned times.

    Luv U Lots,
    Shevy
