Wendy’s Take on Vanity Fair’s Young Hollywood Cover
Race or Weight?
Everyone’s talking about Vanity Fair’s “Young Hollywood” cover that features all white and very thin Tinseltown stars.
Noticeably absent is Gabourey Sidibe, who is clearly the #1 breakout star of 2009 for her Oscar nominated performance in “Precious.”
Watch Wendy’s take on Gabourey being snubbed by Vanity Fair and tell us what you think.
Tell Us: What do you think about Vanity Fair snubbing Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe from the Young Hollywood cover?

Okay,
Why are people acting as if everyone (including WENDY) isn’t trying to be skinny. I could respect this segment more if Wendy who is an admitted foodie wasn’t at least 20 to 25 lighter since starting this show. Everyone wants to get all up in arms when people say what’s on everyone’s mind anyway. Gabby is a beautiful girl but lets admit it. If she wasn’t famous and you saw her in McDonald’s you would snicker under your breath.
Maybe once people who want to speak out about what other’s feel (WENDY) embrace their own inner beauty people like Gabby will be featured on the cover of these magazines.

You know after I heard the Howard Stern and Robin comments, then saw that a weight loss company was after her I knew my anger was justified. This young lady is a hidden talent, I really think Hollywood has sent blacks and latinos a message we only want you when you fit a stereotype. Gaby is no different than America Ferrera. she wasn’t included as well. I was so upset when on the Barbara Walter special out of all the things to talk about to Monique we had to know about her hairy legs. Years agao, Julia Roberts and Lily Tomlin let you know they didn’t shave, but again what’s good for the white meat seems to have another meaning for brown and black.
It’s about weight, color and ignorance. Hollywood wants us to always look and act like Madea, talk with an accent and really lives our lives looking for love on a VH1 reality series. I heard an actor say recently (black male) that when hollywood gave us a chance to shie we gave them Omarosa!

I think it was race and weight. Particularly since she is dark -skinned. Howard Stern recent rant (insult) to her on his radio show.

How U Doin Everybody
I am an African American Brutha and have seen the movie “Precious” and applaud Gabourey performance in the role.
I actually took my entire staff to see the movie and we all liked the movie.
Now as for Gabby not being on the cover , I’m not sure it was a Weight or Race issue… this is something I have been thinking for a whle now and noticed a few people here have touched on it .
While this young lady performance in the movie was / is phenomenal and YES she is the break-out star of 09, However, I often wonder IF she will be in anything else ???
I tend not to think so … hopefully I am incorrect,However, let’s face it she is not actually an actress , has no training in the industry and basically got lucky… she fit that particular suit so to speak .
I realize its not a popular thing to say,However, it is what it is .
Let’s WAIT to see if she’ll be in anything else and then we can see what this young lady can really do.
If she does land another leading or co-supporting role (doubtfully), then I can say OK she’s paid her dues and let’s go from there.
I wish her all the best , However, realistically speaking dont think we’ll see her again .
BUT and I say BUT …. she DOES have the support of some heavy hitters in the Industry … ( Oprah, Monique etc ) who hopefully will look out for her and see that she IS extended another chance and IN another leading or co-supporting role.
All the best …

Hollywood needs to get over it and understand that talent is talent. Hollywood should be a representation of a society that is comprised of different backgrounds. We all have something to contribute. Women are all beautiful and when a young woman has talent it makes her gorgeus.

Thank goodness Gabourey Sidibe is comfortable in her own skin. I would think that in the Hollywood community which just thrives on skin deep beauty, she would be snubbed. She is an unusually talented and gifted actor, so the film community had to recognize that. But it puts that same community into a dilemna. How do they recognize her talents and yet overlook the fact that she does not represent that “Hollywood beautiful” glitterati. Think about how the red carpet is run. Everyone just gushing over the glitz and glamor on Academy Award night. And trashing the women that don’t pick a gown that lives up to a certain fashion standard. I believe that Ms. Sidibe will handle the red carpet beautifully but I worry about those that might be patronizing instead of truly accepting of someone that is outside the norm of Hollywood standard.

I do not even know if I have ever picked up a Vanity Fair magazine before. What I do know, Gabby’s talent, personality, & the way she is “struttung” her own hotness in that pictue above will carry her a lot further than that magazine ever will. Wendy, I would like toi see Gabby on your show & doing her thing with your new Diva Fan. Then let her look directly in to the camera & say to those people “How You Doin?” in her greatest “Kill With Kindness” beautiful & talented self. Thanks Wendy for being so real in a world that has gone too far in loosing value to ones self.

The truth of the matter is that they are trying to sell magazines to their audience. Who are mostly white people. They put people on the cover they thought would sell issues no matter how talentless the women are. They do this all the time. Unfortunately, Gabby being on the cover wouldn’t sell any. Do I think its also about race or size, yes I do. There are more talented black women who could have been used. But honestly their readers don’t want to see Gabrielle or Sanaa on the cover. Don’t get me wrong I am a black women myself, but its just the way things are in Hollyweird.
