Gay Super Bowl Ad Controversy
How you doin’?
Last week Wendy told us about the controversy surrounding Tim Tebow’s pro-life Super Bowl ad that CBS will air this Sunday, and today played a commercial for a gay men dating site, that CBS rejected.
Hear Wendy’s take on both of these ads and what she thinks about CBS rejecting the Man Crunch 30 second spot!
Tell Us: Do you think CBS should air this ad in the Super Bowl, or do you support their decision?

My comment is about the Wendy Show. She is great, but having an audience member open the show and then she wastes about eight minutes talking to them is boring. Ask Wendy is too long as well. There should be more time spent on Hot Topics and interviews. She is a great interviewer. The audience segments are lame.

I believe the ad should be run most definitly Wendy because not only am I gay but also my reason is if they can run a pro-life anti abortion commercial which I think is very offense then why can’t they show two men kissing? I would say this is sexual discrimination towards gay men across America and there trying to spread not the message of love between a gay couple but the message that abortion is wrong and we should all choose life over having an abortion. I feel very strongly Wendy because I have always have and always will continue to believe that the subject of abortion is a choice between a woman and her doctor and if a woman wants to choose to have an abortion that’s her choice. I feel that if CBS is going to pull the gay men kissing commercial off the air then they should also do away with the pro-life commerical as well and I mean right now.

Wendy,
I dont see what is wrong with the gay dating service ad, other than the fact that it is kinda childish/stupid. CBS should not have said no to it if the people wanted to pay to have the several million people see this crappy ad then let them. If CBS doesnt have a problem with ads like “GoDaddy.com” then they shouldnt have a problem with putting on on for a gay dating survice. Compaired to those the gay dating service one looks like its an ad for a church! And remember there has already been a an ad for the Super Bowl of two men kissing for Snickers a year or two ago, so that shouldn’t be the problem.

Gay people will be gay cause of they sexuality and people and very masciline men will always be turned off at the fact of two men getting too close! Hell “,I don’t want to see two women getting too damn close either! YUCK! THAT COMERCIAL DIDN’T HAVE NO PLOT OR COMEDY, STORY LINE OR NOTHING ! HORRIBLE COMERCIAL ON MANY LEVELS!

I don’t think it should be shown – I know money is money and the networks want to make it any way they can. I have no problem with people being gay – I used to have a lot of gay friends that unfortunately died of AIDS years ago. I used to organize benefit shows for People With Aids Coalition in Houston, Texas when they just found out about AIDS. No it is not a sin to be gay and God did make gay people – the wrong part of it is the sexual acts that God is against. What we think about what the network shows is of no consequence – they will do what they want any way.
Love you Wendy and Love your show – How You Doin?

First of all, anyone who takes the words of the Bible and twists them to make their views and lifestyles ok is in for a rude awakening. I’ll pray for your souls and the sad interpetation of the Bible that you have. Secondly, abortion is more than just a christian issue, it is a moral human issue. It seems that people have forgotten that there is another option, ADOPTION!!!! As for the gay commercial, aside that it IS morally wrong, it was distastefull. I don’t think other dating sites would use something so sloppy and gross as promotion.

I think the ad should be ran. Since there are atheletes and celebs these days thatb are coming fromm out of the closet. If I can see it on the soap operas, I can see it at Super Bowl time.

Wendy,
First off I love your show and love the fact that you are down to earth. There is nothing wrong with this ad. In fact Hollywood seems to want to always show gay men as very fem (not that there is anything wrong with that). It is nice to see that these two guys seemed to be pretty butch and hay even gays like sports.
Kepp up the good work. We love yea in South Florida. Come visit us in key Largo, Fl some time. You and your family would love it.
All the best,
Randy

God does not have a problem with Gay people. If he did, he would not have made Gay people.

I’m offended. That commercial should not be aired. Just because you are gay, does not mean that you just go at it like that. Gays aren’t horn dogs. They are two people of the same sex that love each other and find each other attractive. A kiss means more than a kiss, most of the time. As a liberal christian, I am all for being GLBT/Q but to take something beautiful and turn it into filth, such as this commercial did, is wrong.

To me the most heinous thing about all of this is that CBS is promoting a religious agenda, a very specific, fundamentalist Christian one.
In 2004, CBS rejected a United Church of Christ ad called “Bouncer.” CBS claimed the ad, one you can check out on YouTube, was too controversial since it allegedly advocated same-sex marriage. The ad, which included gay and lesbian people, was simply meant to show that all people should be welcome in church.
In 2005, the UCC sought air time again and was told that the network does not air religious advertising. One month later, Focus on the Family was allowed to buy airtime for an ad which aired during Supernanny. What’s up with that, CBS?

Wendy how sad that you would choose to please the gay community before God. When you asked the audience what was wrong with the ad, and then said “Nothing”, you came off once again as a desperate host. I know gays pretty much fill your audience but pleasing them and gay celebs before God will get you nowhere eventually but canceled. Get your soul right girl and then find a backbone. You know homosexuality is and always will be wrong. You are fortunate to work in a medium where you can influence people. Use it to influence good instead of bad. Shame on you for being so weak.

I think they should run the ad. I’ve seen worse on some of the shows they run on a regular basis, but they can’t run a 2 minute ad? Insane. I find it convenient that they’re running an ad that basically tells women to ignore their doctor’s orders/advice, and do whatever they want. I find that to be completely irresponsible.

Hi Wendy, thank you for bringing this up… How you doin??? First of all, as a gay man, I support the equality to show all types of people, but the advertisement is of poor quality and makes gay men seem like sluts and focusing on the sex rather than a mutual bond… If it was a tasteful ad, I would condone it… As for all of you haters, if you believe one thing in the bible is sinful, but ignore the others (shellfish, submissive wives, allowing slavery, clothing made of two different fibers, punishing the raped women… This is all stated in the bible…!!!), then you have no reason to argue…

Wendy,
I saw your show today and appreciate you showing the ad. This brings me back to the Adam Lambert issue with ABC. Homophobia is still alive and it is quite apparent that CBS feels that anything other than the stereotypical heterosexual male is not accepted, especially in the NFL.
It’s sad to see that in 2010 homophobia is still as strong as it was years and years ago.
