Rihanna Speaks Out

For the first time since the incident with Chris Brown in February, Rihanna is sharing her story.

In an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America” and “20/20,” Rihanna tells Diane why she decided to finally speak out and what it was like to realize how her situation effects young girls who are victims of abuse.

HOWEVER I AM A SOCIAL WORKER WITH A MASTER DEGREE AND BELIEVE SHE IS LUCKY CONSIDERING SOME OF THE THINGS I HAVE HEARD AND WITNESSED. BUT THERE IS ALSO A PART LEFTED OUT…. SOMEWHERE IN THE MIST CHRIS HAS ALSO BEEN ABUSE BY RHIANNA. DON’T GET IT TWISTED SHE DID GET HURT BADLY; BUT DID ANYONE SEE CHRIS’S WOUNDS AFTERWARD..   2. I don’t believe Rhianna is doing this interview for a publicity stunt. If you didn’t already notice, she was selling records waaaaaaaaay before this whole incident. 2ndly, from other clips I viewed, this was not the first time her and Chris have been “violent” but it was the last time, because the world knew her “dirty laundry”. I’ve grown up with parents who physically fought day in and out, but from the outside, we seemed like a perfect family. When those photos were exposed, so was the truth, and she couldn’t no longer just put to the back of her mind and make up with him, as she did so many times before. It’s like someone cheating on their spouse, they are gonna keep doing it until they get caught. If they don’t see any consequence to their actions, then why would they stop? She faced her reality when those pictures came out. I believe if those pictures were not leaked to show the actual seriousness of her injuries and situation, she and Chris probably would have just swept it under the rug, and still be together. I believe if she wasnt Rihanna, if she was just Lisa from Philly, she probably would have went back to Chris. But she realized that she has so many young girls her look up to her, that no matter how sincere Chris is, or how he changed, that those little girls would think it was okay to go back to someone that hit them, because Rihanna did. As far as Chris, I do believe he is trying his best to change. He is a very talented young man, and Im glad that “society” has been hard on him, but they need to also forgive. He is trying to move on, and I believe the public should let him. NO ONE was there, we can only speculate. What I do know, is that they loved, and cared about each other very much, and they still do. They are young, they will make mistakes, and we should let them BOTH move on, without trying to ostracize them for the actions, that some of us over- critical people have made ourselves!   3. Well at this point I think that its a publicity stunt because her album is about to drop. Why talk now. We are so over it. I was not there but I feel that they blew it all out of proportions. Yes it appears the he hit her and she hit him now who hit first we will never no. Move on rihanna chris is over you. And so I’m I.

  4. There was a misquote. She never stated she went back 8 or 9 times, she was quoting stats. Actually she said women go back 8 or 9 times and she didn’t want that to happen.

  5. I agree with what most people have already said. I was so happy with the lady who made the comment. I think what he did is unacceptable, however, I find it hard to believe that she didn’t start a fight or two. Her guilt in the situation goes beyond allowing it to happen and going back. The clips that I heard she uses this soft I’m innocent voice and to me just like Chris’s apologize was too little too late. I wasn’t her fan and will never be, especially with this publicity stunt. Let the boy grow and learn so he can get on with his life and career. People forgave R Kelly quicker than this.

  6. I think that no way should chris hit rihanna , nor should rihanna have tried to push his buttons to get him to that point. Everyone has a breaking point . Honestly I think both rihanna & chris brown are both talented.chris more than rihanna cus she can’t really sing she’s jst a made up image let’s be honest. When she first came out w HER style she wasn’t so huge. ANYWAY. Now that they’re both pretty well known they’ve both become currupt especially rihanna. & chris idk I forgave him when he said sorry whether it was sincere or not BUT! He seems to be very cocky now like , keep a low profile bud! Sheeesh. All I have to say is I’ve lost respect for rihanna seeing that she has forgotten her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. It saddens me . Way off topic I know . & kinda all over the place but! I had to vent . P.s russian roulette she should be ashamed singing that whether neyo wrote it or not , I’m nineteen & I know telling someone to kill themselves is a big time no no cus basically that’s what she’s saying.   8. Hey Wendy, I like that you took both sides, but in the interview she didn’t say she went back to him 9 times, Diana Sawyer said that its takes an average girl 6 or 7 times before she leaves the guy & Rihanna said no its actually 8 or 9 times before they leave.

  9. I have thought about this for some time because Domestic Violence is not new. What I sometimes see is confusion, because what is to be done when the victim is also the abuser, and the abuser is also a victim?

    This all started with Rihanna hitting Chris first as he was driving. That makes her just as responsible as him. You can’t hit anyone and expect not to be hit back. Yes she looked worse off than he did in the photos because he is stronger than her. That still doesn’t excuse the fact that she put her hands on him first. BOTH of them were wrong. Yet, he is the only one who was penalized, the only one who lost endorsements, the only one who America judged and tried.

    When did it come to be that a woman can hit a man or anyone and not get hit back? Is that OK to people? Do you feel since a woman is weaker she can hit a man? Men are taught to walk away, don’t hit a woman back no matter what. My cousins have had fights growing up when the brother finally had enough and jumped on his sister. Everyone has a breaking point. My Aunt told her she got what she deserved because she was told not to hit her brother he may hit her back. She tested it again and again!

    Domestic Violence should not be accepted by man or woman. Women fought for equality so we have to be on equal footing on some rules too.

  10. I am tired of Rihanna getting all this attention and the words that are being used. SHE WAS NOT BRUTALLY BEATEN, she doesnt even know what that is like. I grew up in home where my father was abusive. My mother was ACTUALLY rutally beaten. Rihanna had minor cuts and bruises. I AM NOT saying that she deserved this in anyway. And yes I am a CB fan, but I know it was wrong. What is rally making me mad is that Chris respected Rhianna after the incident by keeping what happened private. She is now opening up, why? Maybe because she has a new CD, and so does chris. Why is she trying to make him look bad. What I dont understand is how Rihanna can get woman of the year, fordoing what? leaving her boyfriend and keeping her mouth shut for months! There are ppl out there who actually deserve woman of the year! Chris is rying to better himself and i dont know why people are trying to keep him down! Why arent ppl happy he is helping the community. Average everyday ppl beat their families and nothing happens to them, they are not boycotted! Ppl use the excuse as well that he is a celeb and that ppl look up to him. Is it not the parents jobs to teach their kid right from wrong? STOP BLAMING CELEBS!!! THEY ARE HUMAN TOO!!

  11. I dont want to believe that she is using this forum to promote her songs. First of all she is not the greatest singer. I rate her a 4 and I think thats too high. This is not the time or place for her to try to get the world to feel sorry for her and buy her song.

  12. Rihanna needs to get over herself! She is only speaking out now because of her album. Her and Chris were seen together after it all happened and she was still calling his mom, mom. I’m tired of seeing her walking around New York like she is Posh Spice…all of the publicity is exactly what she wants. She said she went to sleep Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears, you wanted it to be like that. That is why she always dresses the way she does, FOR ATTENTION! And she said it takes people 7 or 8 times to leave..she didnt say it took HER 7 or 8 times to leave. And if it actually did..she probably hit him first 6 or 7 out of those times! Rihanna has a violent background that people havent talked about because she wants to be the VICTIM. Just because she got hit doesnt make her the victim. Those horns on her face were probably her true horns coming out..not to mention that they were IDENTICAL! Chris couldn’t have given her IDENTICAL horns! That probably happened when he stopped the car after she kept hitting him. Seriously, they want us to believe that Rihanna just randomly asked for his phone, saw some girl text him and then hes the one that went off? Not her!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME! And the only people acting like Rihanna is such a hero are the gay guys..including Perez who likes to harass Chris on his twitter about it! They need to grow up and Rihanna needs to step out and say the truth..if she wants to speak! Seriously, we were all over the whole situation before Chris even made his first public apology. Until Rihanna says the truth or doesnt have anything to sell..I dont think she should be aloud to speak, not to mention that her singles arent doing well either. ITS ALL A STUNT FROM HER PEOPLE! But…I will be watching what she has to say tomorrow night. lol. I have to see her whole “true story” UGH!

  13. I dont mean to be cruel. But I feel that there is 4 sides to every story: her side, his side, the lie side, and the truth side. Now I dont believe in any man putting his hands on any woman and the same applies to woman putting their hands on the men. I just feel that she wants the world to feel sorry for her. Chris is a very handsome and very talented person. I feel that both of their careers are good. Now I just want her to tell the truth. Dont make this seem like its all of his fault. I am sure she had a lot to do with this. Just tell the truth.

  14. While I strongly disagree with others who responded stating she was partially to blame for getting a beat down from Chris. I do believe the timing of the interview is a bit convenient and she’s using her abuse to boost record sales which is really tacky.

  16. It’s amazing, for the past 8 months Rihanna has been seen jetsetting around the world and the minute her album is about to hit, she want to be a role model for young girls. Would I want my young daughter to dress like Rihanna “NO”…Both Rihanna and Chris need to seek professional help (which Chris has) and move forward.
    They both were to young to be so involved with each other and really didn’t understand what a real relationship is all about. I say learn from your past and move forward…LET IT GO!!!!!

  17. I FEEL THAT rihanna is coming out for sympathy sales for her album thats comin out soon. Its sad about the abuse, she has as much blame as CHRIS. she is no angel in the situation.SHE just has a good camp behind her coaching her. GOD bless CHRIS.

  19. Also i feel tht she’s just coming out now to boost her record sales. She knows people have long forgotten, so she felt she could send that out and play the pity card so that she can come out on top knowing that some still have hatred for chris because of what happened.
